Il calcio unisce, separa anche e mette insieme. Ogni Nazionale ha la sua maglia. Ho scelto quella del capitano della Grecia Sokratis per un duello a tu per tu con l’Europa. Ho cercato – sotto il sole cocente che cade a picco sull’Acropoli a mezzogiorno – di giocarmela indossando i panni della Nazionale greca.
Una partita tra Grecia ed Europa a suon di pallonate su un muro abbandonato di questa città che prende forma sui graffiti, sul quale ho disegnato – seguendo le mie misure – la bandiera della Comunità Europea.

Football unites, divides, and connects. Every national team wears its own jersey, a symbol of belonging and identity. For this work, I chose the jersey of the Greek national team’s captain, Sokratis, to stage a symbolic one-on-one confrontation with Europe.
Under the scorching midday sun, directly beneath the Acropolis, I attempted to metaphorically “play my game” wearing the colours of Greece.
The action takes the form of an imaginary match between Greece and Europe: a solo challenge of repeated shots kicked against an abandoned wall in Athens — a surface layered with the traces of urban life and graffiti. On this wall, using my own body as a unit of measurement, I drew the flag of the European Union, turning the wall into both a goal and a screen for projection — a fragile interface between local identity and supra-national power.
